Call for Abstracts, Full Papers and Panels

The Conference Chairs are delighted to invite submissions in the form of abstracts, full papers and panel proposals for Data for Policy 2024.

The eighth edition of the conference will focus on the future of governance and decision making with AI. We have posed the overarching theme, “Trustworthy Governance with AI?”, as a question to provide room for  two types of conversations. Firstly, what are the emerging capabilities, use cases, and best practices enabling innovation that could contribute to improved governance with AI? Secondly, what concerns are being raised regarding these advancements in areas such as data, algorithms, privacy, security, fairness, and potential risks? For both discussions, we invite proposals that delve into the role and capacity of governance in preventing AI-related harms and explore the potential for governance to generate added value through responsible AI deployment. For a more thorough consideration of the conference theme, please read this informative blog by Zeynep Engin and conference co-chairs.

There are six broad, interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral areas of interest, which form the standard tracks of the conference. These are complemented by ten special tracks. Full details of conference tracks can be found on this page. We welcome submissions covering a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • AI applications for policy formulation and implementation;
  • Impact of Generative AI on public service delivery and citizen engagement;
  • Machine agency in governance and decision-making;
  • Human-AI collaboration and decision-making in governance;
  • AI-driven decision support systems for public administration;
  • Legal and regulatory frameworks for AI in governance;
  • Safety, transparency, fairness, accountability, and trust in AI-driven decision-making;
  • Data and infrastructure technologies working in tandem with AI to transform decision-making in governance (chatbots, platforms, distributed ledger systems, digital twins, augmented reality, etc.);
  • Governance models and frameworks for effective utilisation of AI options in decision-making processes to enhance good governance practices.

For full information on the submission types and process, please see the information for authors. We are pleased to announce that full papers submitted to the conference will benefit from our new conference-journal integrated review process. Full papers will be submitted directly to Data & Policy and reviewed for both venues, with the aim of being publication-ready by the conference.  Read more about the integrated peer review process on this page.

The conference general chairs Zeynep Engin (Data for Policy CIC), Jon Crowcroft (University of Cambridge and The Alan Turing Institute) and Stefaan Verhulst (New York University) are delighted to work with local chairs Mark Kennedy and Rosella Arcucci, from Imperial College.
