Established in 2018, Data for Policy Community Interest Company (CIC) is the non-profit backbone to the community’s operations. Accordingly, the work of the CIC is overseen by its Board of Directors, who guide the CIC’s strategy and development, and also ensure its aims and obligations are met. In August, having completed the maximum three terms of service, our esteemed colleagues Profs Anil Bharath (Imperial College), Sir Anthony Finkelstein (City St George’s, University of London) and Philip Treleaven (UCL) have left the board. All three have been directors from the incorporation of the CIC and have participated in notable developments along the way including the launch of the Data & Policy journal (2019) and the convening of three regional conferences in 2022. We are very pleased that they will all continue to be involved in the community in an advisory capacity.
We are also delighted to announce Prof Stefaan Verhulst (The GovLab, NYU) as a new Director. Stefaan has been involved with the community for a number of years, and also serves as Co-Chair of the Data for Policy Conferences and Co-Editor in Chief of the Data & Policy Journal. On his appointment, Stefaan told us, “I am thrilled to join the Data for Policy Community Interest Company (CIC) to further strengthen the community of researchers and policymakers with the aim to build a robust foundation of evidence and collective intelligence on how data and AI can shape policy-making, and what policies are essential for ensuring their responsible and impactful use.”
We are sure that you will join with the remaining Directors, Drs Zeynep Engin and Emily Gardner (Data for Policy), Profs Jon Crowcroft (University of Cambridge), and David Hand (Imperial College) in thanking the outgoing Directors for their invaluable service and wishing them all the best for the future, as well as welcoming Stefaan in his extended role.
