Data for Policy CIC is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Shanghai Research Institute for Intelligent Autonomous Systems (SRIIAS) at Tongji University, to co-organise the Data for Policy 2025 (DfP’25) Asia-Pacific Conference in Shanghai, China.
The agreement was formally signed on 1 April 2025 by Dr Zeynep Engin, Founding Director of Data for Policy CIC, and Professor HE Bin, representing the host institution, SRIIAS. This marks a significant milestone in fostering strategic collaboration between the two organisations, with the shared objective of advancing interdisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of emerging technologies and public policy.
The Data for Policy 2025 (DfP’25) Asia-Pacific Conference will be held under the overarching theme “Advancing AI: Innovations, Governance, and Ethical Frontiers”. The conference will explore the latest developments in artificial intelligence, including breakthroughs in generative AI, deep learning, and reinforcement learning, while addressing practical challenges such as data quality, model interpretability, and system security.
In parallel, the programme will examine evolving governance frameworks, ethical considerations, and the broader societal implications of AI technologies. Participants will engage with experts and practitioners across diverse fields, from healthcare to autonomous systems, to consider the global cooperation required for responsible and sustainable AI development.
The conference will be structured around five core themes:
- Innovation and Challenges in Frontier Technologies of Artificial Intelligence: Exploring state-of-the-art advancements in AI and associated technical challenges in real-world implementation.
- Current Status and Future of Artificial Intelligence Governance: Examining regulatory developments, ethical frameworks, and emerging models of AI oversight from international perspectives.
- Artificial Intelligence Ethics and Social Responsibility: Addressing the societal impacts of AI, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the implications of automation.
- Applications of Artificial Intelligence Across Industries: Presenting case studies and best practices in sectors such as medical diagnostics, autonomous transport, and smart manufacturing.
- Global Governance and Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence: Investigating strategies for international collaboration and harmonisation of AI governance standards.
The conference will be hosted by Shanghai Research Institute for Intelligent Autonomous Systems (SRIIAS), one of the leading interdisciplinary research centres at Tongji University. Established in 2018 through a collaboration between the Shanghai Municipal Government and Tongji University, SRIIAS is dedicated to high-impact research in autonomous systems and intelligent technologies. The institute brings together experts in autonomous and sensing systems, collaborative and swarm intelligence, and emergent intelligence to address complex challenges in AI development. The founding director of SRIIAS is Professor CHEN Jie, an IEEE Fellow, IFAC Fellow, and a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Under his leadership, the institute continues to push the boundaries of AI research and development. (Find more information about the institute here)
Through this partnership, Data for Policy CIC and SRIIAS aim to deliver a high-quality international conference that promotes evidence-informed policymaking and facilitates meaningful engagement between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
Further details regarding the conference agenda, and the call for abstracts, full papers, and panel proposals will be announced in due course. Stay tuned for more updates as we look forward to this exciting event in the heart of Shanghai!
